Back From a Day Off of Blogging

Yes, I did not post anything on here yesterday...so sue me. We had plumbing problems in the shape of roots in our water sewer line the night before last at the Mikey D abode. Fear not, 1 day later and a little lighter in the wallet department, all is well again and we have liquid running again...yay!!!!

Learning this week that many of my friends are having marital problems. One of our friends has already split earlier this week from her husband and another couple are having many arguments and problems at their home. Let's hope that simmers down and works itself out. Having been in that position a few years ago myself, where I almost threw everything that meant anything to me down the drain, I know what it's like. But having gone through that, I now have a different attitude in my marriage that I think alot of people don't know until it's too late. Yes, I'm still lazy and still a little mean/hateful to my loving spouse but I know where to stop. In arguments, I know what's worth arguing about and what's petty. (And really, there isn't much worth arguing about in the big scheme of things.) The key to a successful marriage, and listen closely, is simple....communication. And I'm not just talking about talking. For example, if you get into an argument, you need to be able to stop, take a breath, turn off the anger for a few minutes (that's the key part ) and have a quiet, simple ADULT conversation and come to some kind of compromise.. That's all it is. I don't have to write a book about the secrets of staying with your wife/husband forever because it's not needed. All that is needed is that one piece of advice I gave to you above. I just saved you a bunch of reading....you're welcome. Oh and one more thing, Never ever be too proud to say I'm sorry (even if you don't think it's your fault). That one phrase can do wonders on getting past an argument.

Sadly, a local high school football coach got killed in a car crash earlier today. That's a tragedy in itself, but even worse was that his 10 year old son was also killed and his 7 year old son is in critical condition. I wasn't in the car so I don't know all the facts of what went on and why he did it, but the dad apparantly pulled out in front of a big truck. Now, I admit, sometimes you might not see something or something distracts you, but when you have your children in the car with you, the fact is you need to make doubly sure everything is clear before pulling into a road. It's a shame so many lives were loss in that accident that could have been avoided with just a little more caution given.

It's also celebration time for Mikey D. today. For today is my wife's last day of teaching school this year...yes, it sounds more like celebration for her, but hold up, my friend.....I will now no longer have those tough early morning wake-ups to make breakfast for 2 spoiled kids plus get dressed and ready a one year old. That, by itself, is cause for joy. I only have to take a 13 year old to school for about one more week and then I'm free to wake up, get myself ready, and head to work....life will be so simple...

Okay, getting off this thing now. Gotta live me some life. Till next time.....

The Nutshell Opens a Little More.

I'm back...2 posts in 2 days. Don't get used to it because you probably will be disappointed. Anyway, my life at the moment consists mainly of me counting down the days till we take our almost yearly family vacation to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. 9 days and counting till we leave on outta here. I love that little mountain town. And I love our cabin even more. Ahhh, the relaxing jets of the hot tub.  Mmmmm, the soothing surround sound of the movie theater room. Ohhh, the crisp sounds of our kids playing on the pool table. And don't forget the peaceful noises of nature.....Did I mention that I can't freakin wait? Oh well, that's 9 days away so let's try to put it out of my head or else it will never get here. Back to me, I know you are dying to know some of my favorite things. Where do we start? Since tv rules our house most of the time, I'll start there. I am a man of simple tastes. I like sitcoms, reality shows, and because I'm a kid at heart...cartoons. The rundown of my fave of faves goes like this, give or take a show or two: love Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Office, Rules of Engagement, Family Guy, American Dad, and Bob's Burgers. A couple of shows that don't fit those 3 categories that I love include American Horror Story (where did you go?) and my favorite of all shows at the moment, The Walking Dead (unbelievably awesome awesome show). Well, this information got boring fast. I will go over other faves at a later time. And don't worry.....you will soon get to hear me gripe about such things as elderly drivers, stupid people in the fast food drive thru, lawn care maintenance people, and other fun subjects. Maybe tomorrow idiots with deafening mufflers will get my wrath or maybe rednecks with 10 tennis balls on their antennas will get that pleasure....who knows? Till then.......

Step one: Meet Mikey D.

Hello to the one or two people out there that decide to read all about the world according to an unexciting, rather normal 40 year old married guy living in Alabama. First, let me tell you a little about myself. Like I said, I am happily married to my beautiful wife, Amy, and have been for the past 200....I mean, 14 years. (Slips of the tongue...they can be deadly). I have 3 awesome children......Dylan: 13, Megan: 7, and Madison: 1. Yeah, yeah...I know what you're saying..."Why are you punishing yourself?" or "What did you do so bad to deserve this hell?". Well, calm down. I actually did this on purpose. And about 21.5 hours of each day, I absolutely love it. The other 2.5 hours....well, we won't speak of that evil not worth speaking of. Now that you know as much as you need to know about me (at this time), I will explain what you are reading. My blog. Oh, you need to know more, huh?...ok, ok....The plan right now is to post as often as I can (which with 3 kids may not be that much) and let this be whatever it needs to be on that particular day. Tomorrow it might need to be just a journal of what happened in my boring little world that day. Another day, it might be a platform for my ramblings about my pet peeves (and I have plenty of them). Yet another day it may very well be my soapbox to preach on for some reason or another. So get ready to go on a wild and wooly adventure with me....well, maybe not wild and maybe not wooly, but definately something. Just get ready for a ride of some sort. Till next time.
